Disney CEP Application Stage

21:50

I've wanted to work abroad for several years now and this year I finally gained enough courage to actually attempt to make it happen. In Disney World Florida..!

I was originally going to apply through BUNAC, a company that specialises in creating exciting programs for students to work abroad, including America. You can check them out here. That was until I discovered Yummy Jobs!

Yummy Jobs is a similar company but hosts programs to Disney World and Universal Studios in Florida!

The program
I'm applying for the J-1 Cultural Exchange Summer Program in Disney World, Florida. A program set up to guarantee you have the summer of your life earning and learning in one of Disney's resorts or parks. There are a variety of roles you can preference but I will come to those in the final interview section. Accommodation in the form of shared apartments is provided by Disney (rent costs automatically come out of your wages). You have to be a student enrolled in full time university (there are a few other minor criteria you need to meet too) and have to accept several background checks (such as criminal record/student status) and be prepared to pay some fees towards the program.

How to apply!
- Log onto the link above, create an account and click apply,
- You need to apply (usually) before 30th September of each year, applications are usually open for about a month prior to the closing date.
- Go ahead and fill out all the standard details like name, address etc anything you can quickly fill in. There's no need to include your passport details at this stage.
- It asks you to upload a photo of yourself for your profile, choose one that represents the true you. I would recommend taking a photo especially for this purpose, don't use one that you've cropped from a night out or group photo. Get someone else to take one for you, or use the 10 second count down mode on your camera, try not to use a selfie. It's Disney remember, so portray your best smile! Girls, wear subtle/natural make up and boys just look as tidy as possible. As a final tip, since attending the final interview, I learned Disney don't like colourful hair, loads of visible piercings and tattoos!!

- Put in your educational details!
If you're including your GCSE results (I recommend you do) I just simply typed"10 GCSEs at A-C including - Maths, English.."in the Course/Qualification Available box, they don't need to know exact details as you'll be uploading your CV too. Also, rough start/end dates are fine. Remember to put your University degree in even if you're still completing it.
- Pop in your work experience, keeping it relatively relevant to working in Disney world (customer service, team work etc)
- To take part in the program you typically need to be available June-August the following summer.
- Why do you value cultural exchange and interaction? This is really important, it's what the whole program comes down to so think of something quirky and original to say, link it back to some previous experience you may of had with cultural exchange.
- In the Final Comments box, just sum up why you should be chosen to do the program and why you want to do it.
- Upload a cover letter, this should be no more than about a page and you should discuss further why you want to do the program, what motivates you, what makes you ideal for the program and what experience you have in relation to the program. The program is about cultural exchange so try to mention that as much as possible. Bear in mind Disney don't want to hear about how many times you've been to Florida or how you've always loved Cinderella, they want to know what makes you special.

- Again for the motivation section, you only have a limited amount of words so spend some time thinking about why you really want to do this, think of something personal and unique to put in there. Mention cultural exchange!
- It's really important that you submit all the information correctly because you can't edit your application once you've submitted it!
- Be sure to check for punctuation, spelling etc
- Finally, take your time with the questions that need longer answers and the cover letter. There's no rush, as long as you get it in before the deadline. Think hard about each question, try not to repeat yourself too much and try to think of unique things to say that will make you stand out. Perhaps ask someone else to read through your answers to check they make sense and sound as great as possible!

I hope these tips help a little bit, I know when I was going through this part of the process I was really grateful of the help I found on blogs! If you have any questions please let me know!

Good luck with your application!
